Ignite your SEO game with these tips and tricks
Here’s what you need to know about SEO as a small business owner…
When I started freelance writing a few years ago, it wasn’t long before I came across the topic of SEO (search engine optimisation). And I kept coming across it.
As a website copywriter and content writer and as someone who was learning how to get more clients, it seemed like SEO was critical. I’ve since learned just how true this is.
At first, SEO seemed daunting and stressed me out. And I’ve met many people who agree. But I’ve learned that SEO isn’t all that intimidating and it’s an essential part of growing any business, especially an online business.
Whether you’re a freelancer, small business owner, or any digital nomad running an online business, understanding and utilising SEO can make or break your business. That’s because SEO allows you to reach the most potential clients and customers.
So, what even is SEO?
SEO, short for search engine optimisation, are practices that rank your website high on search engines like Google and help you get more traffic to your site. When you utilise SEO correctly, you can get more eyes on your business to ultimately make more sales.
What do I need to know about SEO?
When it comes to SEO, there is so much to know and do. This is why even the term alone can be stressful for many freelancers and business owners even to hear – myself included once upon a time!
An easy way to put it: For SEO, you need to create content for the internet that’s valuable to your targeted audience (the people you want to work with). You also need to do some stuff on the backend to show search engines that your content, services, and/or products are, in fact, valuable. This way, search engines like Google will show you off to more people.
While there are many good SEO practices, you can learn them as you go. And the more you implement them, the easier it gets. Optimising my own website for SEO and helping my clients with theirs has become almost natural over time.
Here are a few quick SEO tips for promoting your online business:
Optimise your website for SEO.
Add your business to Google+ Local.
Ask for reviews.
Start a YouTube channel.
Utilise Pinterest.
