Are you a digital nomad? You need to know about these visas
Here are the best visas for digital nomads!
Whether you’re a new digital nomad or you’ve been travelling and working for a while, figuring out where to go, and visa options and requirements can be challenging.
When I was moving around a lot as a digital nomad, researching where to go and what the visa situation was like was always the most time-consuming part for me.
While working remotely, many places I’ve been to haven’t had specific visa options for remote workers and only allow for a 90-day to 3-month stay. While short-term visa options for tourists like this essentially force you to visit more places, it makes it difficult to settle in and explore these destinations long-term.
As the world has opened back up and there are more digital nomads than ever before, countries are welcoming this! In fact, many popular remote work destinations now offer the opportunity for nomads to stay long-term with special visa options.
These also allow you to work legally in that country and often have specific tax agreements.
So what are digital nomad visas?
First of all, a visa is a travel document that lets people visit a foreign country for a specific amount of time. A digital nomad visa is specifically for people who work remotely. While standard visas usually allow for short-term stays, digital nomad visas let nomads stay somewhere long-term.
Usually, digital nomad visas have specific requirements like showing proof of income and a minimum income coming from companies outside of the place you’re visiting. Otherwise, these visas are relatively easy to obtain.
Digital nomad or remote worker visas are an excellent option for anyone not from a country who wants to stay for an extended time. They’re usually only available for freelancers, entrepreneurs, or remote employees who earn income from a company or companies outside of that country.
Most of these visa options allow visitors to stay anywhere from 3 months to 2 years. This is perfect for travellers like me, who enjoy settling somewhere for a while to thoroughly learn and explore a place before moving on. It also allows you to have a home base while visiting nearby places.
